JOHOR BARU: In an unprecedented operation, the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) acted to remove animals at the controversial Saleng Zoo in Kulaijaya here.
The zoo had come under intense scrutiny last month after
Starprobe exposed the poor conditions in which the 40 species of animals were kept.

Dr Zaaba Zainal Abidin led the raid yesterday with about 80 personnel armed with tranquilliser guns, metal cutters and blowtorches.
Environmental NGOs applauded the department's action and said they expected this to be the start of better things to come for the animals.
